Sh'mot (Exodus) 1:1-6:14
Rishon [1st]
1:1Now these are the names of the sons of Yisra'el, who came into Egypt (every man and
his household came with Ya`akov):
1:2Re'uven, Shim`on, Levi, and Yehudah,
1:3Yissakhar,
Zevulun, and Binyamin, 1:4Dan and Naftali, Gad and Asher. 1:5All the souls who came out of the
Ya`akov's body were seventy souls, and Yosef was in Egypt already.
1:6Yosef died, as did
all his brothers, and all that generation. 1:7The children of Yisra'el were
fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and grew exceedingly mighty; and the
land was filled with them.
1:8Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who didn't know Yosef.
1:9He
said to his people, "Behold, the people of the children of Yisra'el are more and mightier
than we. 1:10Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any
war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies, and fight against us, and escape
out of the land." 1:11Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They
built storage cities for Par`oh: Pitom and Ra`meses. 1:12But the more they afflicted them,
the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They were grieved because of the
children of Yisra'el. 1:13The Egyptians ruthlessly made the children of Yisra'el serve,
1:14and
they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in brick, and in all manner of
service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve.
1:15The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was
Shifrah, and the name of the other Pu`ah, 1:16and he said, "When you perform the
duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool; if it is a son, then
you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live."
1:17But the midwives
feared G-d, and didn't do what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the
baby boys alive.

Sheni [2nd]
1:18The king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, "Why have you done
this thing, and have saved the men-children alive?"
1:19The midwives said to Par`oh, "Because the Hebrew women aren't like the Egyptian
women; for they are vigorous, and give birth before the midwife comes to them."
1:20God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty.
1:21It happened, because the midwives feared G-d, that he gave them
families. 1:22Par`oh charged all his people, saying, "You shall cast every son who is born into
the river, and every daughter you shall save alive."
2:1A man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi as his wife.
2:2The
woman conceived, and bore a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three
months. 2:3When she could no longer hide him, she took a papyrus basket for him, and coated it
with tar and with kofer. She put the child in it, and
laid it in the reeds by the river's bank. 2:4His sister stood far off, to see
what would be done to him. 2:5Par`oh's daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the
riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her handmaid to get it.
2:6She
opened it, and saw the child, and, behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and
said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children."
2:7Then his sister said to Par`oh's daughter, "Should I go and call a nurse for you
from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?"
2:8Par`oh's daughter said to her, "Go."
The almah went and
called the child's mother. 2:9Par`oh's daughter said to her, "Take this child away, and nurse him for me, and I
will give you your wages."
The woman took the child, and nursed it.
2:10The
child grew, and she brought him to Par`oh's daughter, and he became her son. She named him
Moshe, and said, "Because I drew him out of the water."

2:11It happened in those days, when Moshe had grown up, that he went out to his
brothers, and looked at their burdens. He saw a Mitzrian striking a Hebrew, one of his
brothers. 2:12He looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no one, he killed
the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
2:13He went out the second day, and, behold, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with
each other. He said to him who did the wrong, "Why do you strike your fellow?"
2:14He said, "Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you
killed the Egyptian?"
Moshe was afraid, and said, "Surely this thing is known."
2:15Now when Par`oh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moshe. But Moshe fled from the
face of Par`oh, and lived in the land of Midyan, and he sat down by a well.
2:16Now the kohen of Midyan had seven daughters.
They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.
2:17The
shepherds came and drove them away; but Moshe stood up and helped them, and watered their
flock. 2:18When they came to Re`u'el, their father, he said, "How is it that you have returned
so early today?"
2:19They said, "A Mitzrian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and moreover
he drew water for us, and watered the flock."
2:20He said to his daughters, "Where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call
him, that he may eat bread."
2:21Moshe was content to dwell with the man. He gave Moshe Tzipporah, his daughter.
2:22She bore a son, and he named him Gershom, for he said, "I have lived as a foreigner
in a foreign land."
2:23It happened in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died, and the
children of Yisra'el sighed because of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to
G-d because of the bondage. 2:24God heard their groaning, and
G-d remembered his covenant with Avraham, with Yitzchak, and with Ya`akov.
2:25God
saw the children of Yisra'el, and G-d was concerned about them.

3:1Now Moshe was keeping the flock of Yitro, his father-in-law, the
kohen of Midyan, and he led the flock to the back of the
wilderness, and came to G-d's mountain, to Chorev.
3:2The angel of the
LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold,
the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3:3Moshe said, I will
turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
3:4When the LORD saw
that he turned aside to see, G-d called to him out of the midst of the bush,
and said, "Moshe! Moshe!"
He said, "Here I am."
3:5He said, "Don't come close. Take off your sandals from off your feet, for the place
you are standing on is holy ground."
3:6Moreover he said, "I am the G-d of your
father, the G-d of Avraham, the G-d of Yitzchak, and the G-d
of Ya`akov."
Moshe hid his face; for he was afraid to look at G-d.
3:7The LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt,
and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.
3:8I
have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of
that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of
the Kana`ani, the Chittite, the Amori, the Perizzi, the Chivvi, and the Yevusi.
3:9Now,
behold, the cry of the children of Yisra'el has come to me. Moreover I have seen the
oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. 3:10Come now therefore, and I will send
you to Par`oh, that you may bring forth my people, the children of Yisra'el, out of Egypt."
3:11Moshe said to G-d, "Who am I, that I should go to Par`oh, and that I
should bring forth the children of Yisra'el out of Egypt?"
3:12He said, "Certainly I will be with you. This will be the token to you, that I have
sent you: when you have brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve G-d
on this mountain."
3:13Moshe said to G-d, "Behold, when I come to the children of Yisra'el,
and tell them, 'The G-d of your fathers has sent me to you;' and they ask me,
'What is his name?' What should I tell them?"
3:14God said to Moshe, "I AM WHO I AM," and he said, "You shall tell the children of
Yisra'el this: "I AM has sent me to you." 3:15God said moreover to Moshe, "You
shall tell the children of Yisra'el this, 'The LORD, the G-d of your fathers,
the G-d of Avraham, the G-d of Yitzchak, and the G-d
of Ya`akov, has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all
generations.

Chamishi [5th]
3:16Go, and gather the elders of Yisra'el together, and tell them, 'The LORD, the
G-d of your fathers, the G-d of Avraham, of Yitzchak, and of Ya`akov,
has appeared to me, saying, "I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you
in Egypt; 3:17and I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of
the Kana`ani, the Chittite, the Amori, the Perizzi, the Chivvi, and the Yevusi, to a land
flowing with milk and honey."'
3:18They will listen to your voice, and you shall come, you
and the elders of Yisra'el, to the king of Egypt, and you shall tell him, 'The LORD, the
G-d of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us go three days' journey
into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD, our G-d.'
3:19I
know that the king of Egypt won't give you permission to go, no, not by a mighty hand.
3:20I will put forth my hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in
the midst of it, and after that he will let you go. 3:21I will give this people favor in
the sight of the Egyptians, and it will happen that when you go, you shall not go
empty-handed. 3:22But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, and of her who visits her house, jewels
of silver, jewels of gold, and clothing; and you shall put them on your sons, and on your
daughters. You shall despoil the Egyptians.
4:1Moshe answered, "But, behold, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for
they will say, 'The LORD has not appeared to you.'"
4:2The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?"
He said, "A rod."
4:3He said, "Throw it on the ground."
He threw it on the ground, and it became a snake; and
Moshe ran away from it.
4:4The LORD said to Moshe, "Put forth your hand, and take it by the tail."
He put forth his hand, and laid hold of it, and it became
a rod in his hand.
4:5"That they may believe that the LORD, the G-d of their fathers, the
G-d of Avraham, the G-d of Yitzchak, and the G-d of
Ya`akov, has appeared to you."
4:6The LORD said furthermore to him, "Now put your hand
inside your cloak."
He put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out,
behold, his hand was leprous, as white as snow.
4:7He said, "Put your hand inside your cloak again."
He put his hand inside his cloak again, and when he took
it out of his cloak, behold, it had turned again as his other flesh.
4:8"It will happen, if they will neither believe you nor listen to the voice of the
first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.
4:9It will happen, if
they will not believe even these two signs, neither listen to your voice, that you shall
take of the water of the river, and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take out of
the river will become blood on the dry land."
4:10Moshe said to the LORD, "Oh, Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before now, nor since
you have spoken to your servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue."
4:11The LORD said to him, "Who made man's mouth? Or who makes one mute, or deaf, or
seeing, or blind? Isn't it I, the LORD? 4:12Now therefore go, and I will be
with your mouth, and teach you what you shall speak."
4:13He said, "Oh, Lord, please send someone else."
4:14The anger of the LORD was kindled against Moshe, and he said, "What about Aharon,
your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Also, behold, he comes forth to
meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.
4:15You shall speak to
him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and will
teach you what you shall do.
4:16He will be your spokesman to the people; and it will
happen, that he will be to you a mouth, and you will be to him as G-d.
4:17You
shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs."

4:18Moshe went and returned to Yitro his father-in-law, and said to him, "Please let me
go and return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive."
Yitro said to Moshe, "Go in shalom."
4:19The LORD said to Moshe in Midyan, "Go, return into Egypt; for all the men who
sought your life are dead."
4:20Moshe took his wife and his sons, and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the
land of Egypt. Moshe took G-d's rod in his hand.
4:21The LORD said to
Moshe, "When you go back into Egypt, see that you do before Par`oh all the wonders which I
have put in your hand, but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go.
4:22You
shall tell Par`oh, 'Thus says the LORD, Yisra'el is my son, my firstborn,
4:23and
I have said to you, "Let my son go, that he may serve me;" and you have refused to let him
go. Behold, I will kill your son, your firstborn.'"
4:24It happened on the way at a lodging place, that the LORD met him and wanted to kill
him. 4:25Then Tzipporah took a flint, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at
his feet; and she said, "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me."
4:26So he let him alone. Then she said, "You are a bridegroom of blood," because of the
circumcision.
4:27The LORD said to Aharon, "Go into the wilderness to meet Moshe."
He went, and met him on G-d's mountain, and
kissed him. 4:28Moshe told Aharon all the words of the LORD with which he had sent him, and all the
signs with which he had charged him.
4:29Moshe and Aharon went and gathered together all the
elders of the children of Yisra'el.
4:30Aharon spoke all the words which the LORD had
spoken to Moshe, and did the signs in the sight of the people.
4:31The people
believed, and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Yisra'el, and that
he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

Shvi'i [7th]
5:1Afterward Moshe and Aharon came, and said to Par`oh, "This is what the LORD, the
G-d of Yisra'el, says, 'Let my people go, that they may hold a feast to me in
the wilderness.'"
5:2Par`oh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should listen to his voice to let Yisra'el
go? I don't know the LORD, and moreover I will not let Yisra'el go."
5:3They said, "The G-d of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go
three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD, our G-d,
lest he fall on us with pestilence, or with the sword."
5:4The king of Egypt said to them, "Why do you, Moshe and Aharon, take the people from
their work? Get back to your burdens!" 5:5Par`oh said, "Behold, the people of
the land are now many, and you make them rest from their burdens."
5:6The same day Par`oh
commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
5:7"You shall no longer
give the people straw to make brick, as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.
5:8The number of the bricks, which they made before, you require from them. You shall
not diminish anything of it, for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, 'Let us go and
sacrifice to our G-d.'
5:9Let heavier work be laid on the men, that they may
labor therein; and don't let them pay any attention to lying words."
5:10The taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the
people, saying, This is what Par`oh says: "I will not give you straw.
5:11Go
yourselves, get straw where you can find it, for nothing of your work shall be diminished."
5:12So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather
stubble for straw. 5:13The taskmasters were urgent saying, "Fulfill your work quota daily, as when there
was straw!" 5:14The officers of the children of Yisra'el, whom Par`oh's taskmasters had set over
them, were beaten, and demanded, "Why haven't you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and
today, in making brick as before?"
5:15Then the officers of the children of Yisra'el came and cried to Par`oh, saying,
"Why do you deal this way with your servants? 5:16No straw is given to your servants,
and they tell us, 'Make brick!' and, behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in
your own people."
5:17But he said, "You are idle! You are idle! Therefore you say, 'Let us go and
sacrifice to the LORD.' 5:18Go therefore now, and work, for no straw shall be given to you, yet shall you
deliver the same number of bricks!"
5:19The officers of the children of Yisra'el saw that they were in trouble, when it was
said, "You shall not diminish anything from your daily quota of bricks!"
5:20They met Moshe and Aharon, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Par`oh:
5:21and they said to them, "May the LORD look at you, and judge, because you have made
us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Par`oh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a
sword in their hand to kill us."

Maftir
[Concluding]
5:22Moshe returned to the LORD, and said, "Lord, why have you brought trouble on this
people? Why is it that you have sent me? 5:23For since I came to Par`oh to speak
in your name, he has brought trouble on this people; neither have you delivered your people
at all."
6:1The LORD said to Moshe, "Now you shall see what I will do to Par`oh, for by a
strong hand he shall let them go, and by a strong hand he shall drive them out of his land."

Haftarah
Yesha'yahu (Isaiah) 27:6-28:13, 29:22-23 (A);
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 1:1-2:3 (S)
27:6In days to come shall Ya`akov take root; Yisra'el shall blossom and bud; and they
shall fill the surface of the world with fruit. 27:7Has he struck them as he struck
those who struck them? or are they slain according to the slaughter of those who were slain
by them? 27:8In measure, when you send them away, you do contend with them; he has removed
them with his rough blast in the day of the east wind.
27:9Therefore by this
shall the iniquity of Ya`akov be forgiven, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin:
that he makes all the stones of the altar as chalk stones that are beaten in sunder, so
that the Asherim and the sun-images shall rise no more.
27:10For the fortified
city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness: there shall the
calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches of it.
27:11When
the boughs of it are withered, they shall be broken off; the women shall come, and set them
on fire; for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he who made them will not have
compassion on them, and he who formed them will show them no favor.
27:12It shall happen in
that day, that the LORD will beat off his fruit from the flood of the River to the
brook of Egypt; and you shall be gathered one by one, you children of Yisra'el.
27:13It
shall happen in that day, that a great shofar shall be
blown; and they shall come who were ready to perish in the land of Ashshur, and those who
were outcasts in the land of Egypt; and they shall worship the LORD in the holy mountain at
Yerushalayim.
28:1Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Efrayim, and to the fading flower of
his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley of those who are overcome with
wine! 28:2Behold, the Lord has a mighty and strong one; as a tempest of hail, a destroying
storm, as a tempest of mighty waters overflowing, will he cast down to the earth with the
hand. 28:3The crown of pride of the drunkards of Efrayim shall be trodden under foot:
28:4and
the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be
as the first-ripe fig before the summer; which when he who looks on it sees, while it is yet
in his hand he eats it up. 28:5In that day will the LORD of Hosts become a crown of glory, and a diadem of beauty,
to the residue of his people;
28:6and a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and
strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.
28:7Even these reel
with wine, and stagger with strong drink; the kohen and
the prophet reel with strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they stagger with strong
drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. 28:8For all tables are full of vomit
and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.
28:9Whom will he teach
knowledge? and whom will he make to understand the message? those who are weaned from the
milk, and drawn from the breasts?
28:10For it is precept on precept, precept on precept;
line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little.
28:11No, but by men
of strange lips and with another language will he speak to this people;
28:12to
whom he said, This is the rest, give you rest to him who is weary; and this is the
refreshing: yet they would not hear. 28:13Therefore shall the word of the
LORD be to them precept on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a
little, there a little; that they may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and
taken.
29:22Therefore thus says the LORD, who redeemed Avraham, concerning the house of Ya`akov:
Ya`akov shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.
29:23But
when he sees his children, the work of my hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my
name; yes, they shall sanctify the Holy One of Ya`akov, and shall stand in awe of the
G-d of Yisra'el.
1:1The words of Yirmeyahu the son of Chilkiyah, of the
kohanim who were in `Anatot in the land of Binyamin:
1:2to whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Yoshiyahu the son of Amon, king of
Yehudah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. 1:3It came also in the days of
Yehoiakim the son of Yoshiyahu, king of Yehudah, to the end of the eleventh year of
Tzidkiyahu, the son of Yoshiyahu, king of Yehudah, to the carrying away of Yerushalayim
captive in the fifth month. 1:4Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 1:5Before I formed you in the belly I
knew you, and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you; I have appointed you a
prophet to the nations. 1:6Then said I, Ah, Lord G-d! behold, I don't know how to speak; for I am
a child. 1:7But the LORD said to me, Don't say, I am a child; for to whoever I shall send you,
you shall go, and whatever I shall command you, you shall speak.
1:8Don't be afraid
because of them; for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.
1:9Then the LORD put
forth his hand, and touched my mouth; and the LORD said to me, Behold, I have put my words
in your mouth: 1:10behold, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up
and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.
1:11Moreover
the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Yirmeyahu, what see you? I said, I see a rod of an
almond tree. 1:12Then said the LORD to me, You have well seen: for I watch over my word to perform
it. 1:13The word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, What see you? I said, I
see a boiling caldron; and the face of it is from the north.
1:14Then the LORD said
to me, Out of the north evil shall break forth on all the inhabitants of the land.
1:15For,
behold, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, says the LORD; and they
shall come, and they shall set everyone his throne at the entrance of the gates of
Yerushalayim, and against all the walls of it round about, and against all the cities of
Yehudah. 1:16I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, in that they
have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their
own hands. 1:17You therefore gird up your loins, and arise, and speak to them all that I command
you: don't be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them.
1:18For, behold, I have
made you this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls, against the whole
land, against the kings of Yehudah, against the princes of it, against the
kohanim of it, and against the people of the land.
1:19They shall fight against you; but they shall not prevail against you: for I am with
you, says the LORD, to deliver you.
2:1The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2:2Go, and cry in the ears of
Yerushalayim, saying, Thus says the LORD, I remember for you the kindness of your youth, the
love of your weddings; how you went after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.
2:3Yisra'el was holiness to the LORD, the first fruits of his increase: all who
devour him shall be held guilty; evil shall come on them, says the LORD.

B'rit Chadashah
Corinthians Alef (1 Corinthians) 14:13-25
14:13Therefore let him who speaks in another language pray that he may interpret.
14:14For
if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
14:15What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the
understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding
also. 14:16Otherwise if you bless with the spirit, how will he who fills the place of the
unlearned say the "Amein" at your giving of thanks, seeing he doesn't know what you say?
14:17For you most assuredly give thanks well, but the other person is not built up.
14:18I thank my G-d, I speak with other languages more than you all.
14:19However
in the assembly I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct
others also, than ten thousand words in another language.
14:20Brothers, don't be children in thoughts, yet in malice be babies, but in thoughts
be mature. 14:21In the law it is written, "By men of strange languages and by the lips of strangers
I will speak to this people. Not even thus will they hear me, says the Lord."
14:22Therefore
other languages are for a sign, not to those who believe, but to the unbelieving; but
prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to those who believe.
14:23If
therefore the whole assembly is assembled together and all speak with other languages, and
unlearned or unbelieving people come in, won't they say that you are crazy?
14:24But
if all prophesy, and someone unbelieving or unlearned comes in, he is reproved by all, and
he is judged by all. 14:25And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed. So he will fall down on his face
and worship G-d, declaring that G-d is among you indeed.

Mattityahu (Matthew) 22:23-33; 41-46
22:23On that day Tzedukim (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him.
They asked him, 22:24saying, "Teacher, Moshe said, 'If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall
marry his wife, and raise up seed for his brother.' 22:25Now there were with us seven
brothers. The first married and died, and having no seed left his wife to his brother.
22:26In like manner the second also, and the third, to the seventh.
22:27After
them all, the woman died. 22:28In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all
had her."
22:29But Yeshua answered them, "You are mistaken,
not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of G-d.
22:30For
in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like G-d's
angels in heaven. 22:31But concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven't you read that
which was spoken to you by G-d, saying,
22:32'I
am the G-d of Avraham, and the G-d of Yitzchak, and the G-d
of Ya`akov?' G-d is not the G-d of the dead, but of the living."
22:33When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.
22:34But
the Perushim, when they heard that he had put the Tzedukim to silence, gathered themselves
together. 22:35One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.
22:36"Teacher, which is
the greatest mitzvah in the law?"
22:37Yeshua said to him, "'You shall love the Lord
your G-d with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
22:38This is the first and great
mitzvah. 22:39A second likewise is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as
yourself.' 22:40The whole law and the prophets depend on these two
mitzvot."
22:41Now while the Perushim were gathered together, Yeshua asked them a question,
22:42saying,
"What do you think of the Messiah? Whose son is he?"
They said to him, "Of David."
22:43He said to them, "How then does David
in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,
22:44'The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit on my right hand,
Until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?'
22:45"If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?"
22:46No one was able to answer him a word, neither dared any man from that day forth ask
him any more questions.
Markus (Mark) 12:18-27; 35-37
12:18There came to him Tzedukim, who say that there is no resurrection. They asked him,
saying, 12:19"Teacher, Moshe wrote to us, 'If a man's brother dies, and leaves a wife behind
him, and leaves no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up offspring
for his brother.' 12:20There were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and dying left no offspring.
12:21The second took her, and died, leaving no children behind him. The third likewise;
12:22and the seven took her and left no children. Last of all the woman also died.
12:23In the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be of them? For the seven
had her as a wife."
12:24Yeshua answered them, "Isn't this because you
are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of G-d?
12:25For when they will rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are
given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 12:26But about the
dead, that they are raised; haven't you read in the book of Moshe, about the Bush, how
G-d spoke to him, saying, 'I am the G-d of Avraham, the G-d
of Yitzchak, and the G-d of Ya`akov?' 12:27He is not the
G-d of the dead, but of the living. You are therefore badly mistaken."
12:28One of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together. Knowing that he had
answered them well, asked him, "Which mitzvah is the
greatest of all?"
12:29Yeshua answered, "The greatest is, 'Hear,
Yisra'el, the Lord our G-d, the Lord is one:
12:30you
shall love the Lord your G-d with all your heart, and with all your soul, and
with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first
mitzvah. 12:31The second is like
this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other
mitzvah greater than these."
12:32The scribe said to him, "Truly, teacher, you have said well that he is one, and
there is none other but he,
12:33and to love him with all the heart, and with all the
understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as
himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."
12:34When Yeshua saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You
are not far from the Kingdom of G-d."
No one dared ask him any question after that.
12:35Yeshua
responded, as he taught in the temple, "How is it that
the scribes say that the Messiah is the son of David?
12:36For David himself said in the Holy Spirit,
'The Lord said to my Lord,
Sit at my right hand,
Until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.'
12:37Therefore David himself calls him Lord, so how can he be his son?"
The common people heard him gladly.
Lukas (Luke) 20:27-44
20:27Some of the Tzedukim came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.
20:28They asked him, "Teacher, Moshe wrote to us that if a man's brother dies having a
wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up children for his
brother. 20:29There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.
20:30The second took her as wife, and he died childless.
20:31The third took
her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.
20:32Afterward the
woman also died. 20:33Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her
as a wife."
20:34Yeshua said to them, "The children of this
age marry, and are given in marriage. 20:35But those who are
considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry,
nor are given in marriage.
20:36For they can't die any more, for they
are like the angels, and are children of G-d, being children of the
resurrection. 20:37But that the dead are raised, even Moshe showed at the bush, when
he called the Lord 'The G-d of Avraham, the G-d of Yitzchak, and
the G-d of Ya`akov.'
20:38Now he is not the G-d
of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him."
20:39Some of the scribes answered, "Teacher, you speak well."
20:40They didn't dare
to ask him any more questions.
20:41He said to them, "Why do they say that the
Messiah is David's son? 20:42David himself says in the book of Tehillim,
'The Lord said to my Lord,
"Sit at my right hand,
20:43Until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet."'
20:44"David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?"
Acts 3:12-15; 5:27-32; 7:17-36; 22:12-16; 24:14-16
3:12When Kefa saw it, he responded to the people, "You men of Yisra'el, why do you
marvel at this man? Why do you fasten your eyes on us, as though by our own power or
G-dliness we had made him walk? 3:13The G-d of Avraham,
Yitzchak, and Ya`akov, the G-d of our fathers, has glorified his Servant
Yeshua, whom you delivered up, and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had determined
to release him. 3:14But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted
to you, 3:15and killed the Prince of life, whom G-d raised from the dead, to which
we are witnesses.
5:27When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The
kohen gadol questioned them,
5:28saying, "Didn't we
strictly charge you not to teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Yerushalayim with
your teaching, and intend to bring this man's blood on us."
5:29But Kefa and the emissaries answered, "We must obey G-d rather than
men. 5:30The G-d of our fathers raised up Yeshua, whom you killed, hanging him
on a tree. 5:31God exalted him with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, to give repentance
to Yisra'el, and remission of sins.
5:32We are His witnesses of these things; and so also
is the Holy Spirit, whom G-d has given to those who obey him."
7:17"But as the time of the promise came close which G-d had sworn to
Avraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, 7:18until there arose a different king,
who didn't know Yosef. 7:19The same took advantage of our race, and mistreated our fathers, and forced them to
throw out their babies, so that they wouldn't stay alive.
7:20At that time Moshe
was born, and was exceedingly handsome. He was nourished three months in his father's house.
7:21When he was thrown out, Par`oh's daughter took him up, and reared him as her own
son. 7:22Moshe was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians. He was mighty in his words
and works. 7:23But when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers, the
children of Yisra'el. 7:24Seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him who was
oppressed, striking the Egyptian.
7:25He supposed that his brothers understood that
G-d, by his hand, was giving them deliverance; but they didn't understand.
7:26"The day following, he appeared to them as they fought, and urged them to be at
shalom again, saying, 'Sirs, you are brothers. Why do you wrong one another?'
7:27But
he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge
over us? 7:28Do you want to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?'
7:29Moshe
fled at this saying, and became a stranger in the land of Midyan, where he became the father
of two sons.
7:30"When forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the
wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.
7:31When Moshe saw it,
he wondered at the sight. As he came close to see, a voice of the Lord came to him,
7:32'I
am the G-d of your fathers, the G-d of Avraham, the G-d
of Yitzchak, and the G-d of Ya`akov.' Moshe trembled, and dared not look.
7:33The Lord said to him, 'Take your sandals off of your feet, for the place where you
stand is holy ground. 7:34I have surely seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard
their groaning. I have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you into Egypt.'
7:35"This Moshe, whom they refused, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge?'--God
has sent him as both a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in
the bush. 7:36This man led them out, having worked wonders and signs in Egypt, in the Sea of Suf,
and in the wilderness for forty years.
22:12One Chananyah, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the
Yehudim who lived in Dammesek,
22:13came to me, and standing by me said to me, 'Brother
Sha'ul, receive your sight!' In that very hour I looked up at him.
22:14He said, 'The
G-d of our fathers has appointed you to know his will, and to see the Righteous
One, and to hear a voice from his mouth. 22:15For you will be a witness for him
to all men of what you have seen and heard. 22:16Now why do you wait? Arise, be
immersed, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'
24:14But this I confess to you, that after the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve
the G-d of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law,
and which are written in the prophets; 24:15having hope toward G-d,
which these also themselves look for, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of
the just and unjust. 24:16Herein I also practice always having a conscience void of offense toward G-d
and men.
Messianic Jews (Hebrews) 11:23-26
11:23By faith, Moshe, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents,
because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid of the king's
mitzvah. 11:24By faith, Moshe, when he had grown
up, refused to be called the son of Par`oh's daughter,
11:25choosing rather to
share ill treatment with G-d's people, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a
time; 11:26accounting the reproach of Messiah greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for
he looked to the reward.
