Sh'mot (Exodus) 18:1-20:26 (23 $¹nt)
Rishon [1st]:
18:1Now Yitro, the kohen of Midyan, Moshe’s father-in-law, heard of
all that G-d had done for Moshe, and for Yisra'el his people, how that the LORD
had brought Yisra'el out of Egypt.
18:2Yitro, Moshe’s father-in-law, received Tzipporah,
Moshe’s wife, after he had sent her away, 18:3and her two sons. The name of one
son was Gershom, for Moshe said, "I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land".
18:4The
name of the other was Eli`ezer, for he said, "My father's G-d was my help and
delivered me from Par`oh's sword."
18:5Yitro, Moshe’s father-in-law, came with his sons
and his wife to Moshe into the wilderness where he was encamped, at the Mountain of
G-d. 18:6He said to Moshe, I, your father-in-law Yitro, have come to you with your wife, and
her two sons with her. 18:7Moshe went out to meet his father-in-law, and bowed and kissed him. They asked each
other of their welfare, and they came into the tent. 18:8Moshe told his father-in-law all
that the LORD had done to Par`oh and to the Egyptians for Yisra'el's sake, all the hardships
that had come on them on the way, and how the LORD delivered them.
18:9Yitro rejoiced for
all the goodness which the LORD had done to Yisra'el, in that he had delivered them out of
the hand of the Egyptians.
18:10Yitro said, "Blessed be the LORD, who has delivered you
out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Par`oh; who has delivered the
people from under the hand of the Egyptians. 18:11Now I know that the LORD is
greater than all gods because of the thing in which they dealt arrogantly against them."
18:12Yitro, Moshe’s father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for G-d.
Aharon came with all of the elders of Yisra'el, to eat bread with Moshe’s father-in-law
before G-d.

Sheni [2nd]
18:13It happened on the next day, that Moshe sat to judge the people, and the people
stood around Moshe from the morning to the evening. 18:14When Moshe’s father-in-law saw all
that he did to the people, he said, "What is this thing that you do for the people? Why do
you sit alone, and all the people stand around you from morning to evening?"
18:15Moshe said to his father-in-law, "Because the people come to me to inquire of
G-d. 18:16When they have a matter, they come to me, and I judge between a man and his
neighbor, and I make them know the statutes of G-d, and his laws."
18:17Moshe’s
father-in-law said to him, "The thing that you do is not good.
18:18You will surely
wear away, both you, and this people that is with you; for the thing is too heavy for you.
You are not able to perform it yourself alone. 18:19Listen now to my voice. I will
give you counsel, and G-d be with you. You represent the people before
G-d, and bring the causes to G-d.
18:20You shall teach
them the statutes and the laws, and shall show them the way in which they must walk, and the
work that they must do. 18:21Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men, such as fear G-d:
men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands,
rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
18:22Let them judge the
people at all times. It shall be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every
small matter they shall judge themselves. So shall it be easier for you, and they shall
share the load with you. 18:23If you will do this thing, and G-d commands you so, then you will be
able to endure, and all of these people also will go to their place in shalom."

Shlishi [3rd]
18:24So Moshe listened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he had said.
18:25Moshe chose able men out of all Yisra'el, and made them heads over the people,
rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
18:26They
judged the people at all times. They brought the hard causes to Moshe, but every small
matter they judged themselves.
18:27Moshe let his father-in-law depart, and he went his way
into his own land.

R'vi'i [4th]
19:1In the third month after the children of Yisra'el had gone forth out of the land of
Egypt, on that same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.
19:2When they had
departed from Refidim, and had come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the
wilderness; and there Yisra'el encamped before the mountain.
19:3Moshe went up to
G-d, and the LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, "This is what you
shall tell the house of Ya`akov, and tell the children of Yisra'el:
19:4'You have seen what
I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings, and brought you to myself.
19:5Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you
shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine;19:6and
you shall be to me a kingdom of kohanim, and a holy nation.' These are
the words which you shall speak to the children of Yisra'el."

Chamishi [5th]
19:7Moshe came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these
words which the LORD commanded him.
19:8All the people answered together, and said, "All
that the LORD has spoken we will do."
Moshe reported the words of the people to the LORD.
19:9The
LORD said to Moshe, "Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I
speak with you, and may also believe you forever." Moshe told the words of the people to the
LORD. 19:10The LORD said to Moshe, "Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow,
and let them wash their garments,
19:11and be ready against the third day; for on the
third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai.
19:12You
shall set bounds to the people round about, saying, 'Be careful that you don't go up onto
the mountain, or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain shall be surely put to
death. 19:13No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether it
is animal or man, he shall not live.' When the shofar sounds long, they
shall come up to the mountain."
19:14Moshe went down from the mountain to the people, and sanctified the people; and
they washed their clothes.
19:15He said to the people, "Be ready by the third day.
Don't have sexual relations with a woman."
19:16It happened on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and
lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly loud
shofar; and all the people who were in the camp trembled.
19:17Moshe
led the people out of the camp to meet G-d; and they stood at the lower part of
the mountain. 19:18Mount Sinai, the whole of it, smoked, because the LORD descended on it in fire; and
its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
19:19When the sound of the shofar grew louder and louder, Moshe
spoke, and G-d answered him by a voice.

Shishi [6th]
19:20The LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain. The LORD called
Moshe to the top of the mountain, and Moshe went up.
19:21The LORD said to Moshe, "Go down, charge the people, lest they break through to the
LORD to gaze, and many of them perish. 19:22Let the kohanim
also, who come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth on them."
19:23Moshe said to the LORD, "The people can't come up to Mount Sinai, for you charged
us, saying, 'Set bounds around the mountain, and sanctify it.'"
19:24The LORD said to him, "Go down and you shall bring Aharon up with you, but don't
let the kohanim and the people break through to come up to the LORD, lest
he break forth on them."
19:25So Moshe went down to the people, and told them.
20:1God spoke all these words, saying, 20:2"I am the LORD your G-d,
who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
20:3You
shall have no other gods before me.
20:4"You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in
the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
20:5you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, the LORD your
G-d, am a jealous G-d, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the
children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me,
20:6and
showing loving kindness to thousands of those who love me and keep my mitzvot.
20:7"You shall not take the name of the LORD your G-d in vain, for the
LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
20:8"Remember the day of Shabbat, to keep it holy.
20:9You shall labor six
days, and do all your work,
20:10but the seventh day is a Shabbat to the LORD your
G-d. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your
man-servant, nor your maid-servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your
gates; 20:11for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them,
and rested the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the day of Shabbat, and made it holy.
20:12"Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which
the LORD your G-d gives you.
20:13"You shall not murder.
20:14"You shall not commit adultery.
20:15"You shall not steal.
20:16"You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
20:17"You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's
wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything
that is your neighbor's."

Shvi'i [7th]
20:18All the people perceived the thunderings, the lightnings, the sound of the
shofar, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled,
and stayed at a distance. 20:19They said to Moshe, "Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but don't let
G-d speak with us, lest we die."
20:20Moshe said to the people, "Don't be afraid, for G-d has come to test
you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won't sin."
20:21The people stayed
at a distance, and Moshe drew near to the thick darkness where G-d was.

[Concluding]
20:22The LORD said to Moshe, "This is what you shall tell the children of Yisra'el: 'You
yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
20:23You shall most
certainly not make alongside of me gods of silver, or gods of gold for yourselves.
20:24You
shall make an altar of earth for me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your
peace-offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I record my name I will come
to you and I will bless you.
20:25If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build
it of hewn stones; for if you lift up your tool on it, you have polluted it.
20:26Neither
shall you go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness may not be exposed to it.'

Haftarah
Yesha'yahu (Isaiah) 6:1-7:6; 9:6-7
6:1In the year that king `Uzziyah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and
lifted up; and his train filled the temple. 6:2Above him stood the serafim. Each
one had six wings. With two he covered his face. With two he covered his feet. With two he
flew. 6:3One called to another, and said,
"Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of Hosts!
The whole earth is full of his glory!"
6:4The foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the
house was filled with smoke. 6:5Then I said, "Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips, and I
dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of
Hosts!"
6:6Then one of the serafim flew to me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had
taken with the tongs from off the altar. 6:7He touched my mouth with it, and
said, "Behold, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin
forgiven."
6:8I heard the Lord's voice, saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?"
Then I said, "Here I am. Send me!"
6:9He said, "Go, and tell this people,
'You hear indeed,
But don't understand;
And you see indeed,
But don't perceive.'
6:10Make the heart of this people fat;
Make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes;
Lest they see with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart,
And turn again, and be healed."
6:11Then I said, "Lord, how long?"
He answered,
"Until cities are waste without inhabitant,
And houses without man,
And the land becomes utterly waste,
6:12And the LORD has removed men far away,
And the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.
6:13If there are yet a tenth in it,
It also shall in turn be eaten up:
As a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stock
remains, when they are felled;
So the holy seed is its stock."
7:1It happened in the days of Achaz the son of Yotam, the son of `Uzziyah, king of
Yehudah, that Retzin the king of Aram, and Pekach the son of Remalyahu, king of Yisra'el,
went up to Yerushalayim to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
7:2It
was told the house of David, saying, "Aram is allied with Efrayim." His heart trembled, and
the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind.
7:3Then
the LORD said to Yesha`yahu, "Go out now to meet Achaz, you, and She'ar-Yashuv your son, at
the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway of the fuller's field.
7:4Tell
him, 'Be careful, and keep calm. Don't be afraid, neither let your heart be faint because of
these two tails of smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Retzin and Aram, and of the
son of Remalyahu. 7:5Because Aram, Efrayim, and the son of Remalyahu, have plotted evil against you,
saying, 7:6"Let's go up against Yehudah, and tear it apart, and let's divide it among
ourselves, and set up a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tav'el."
9:6For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be on his
shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty G-d,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Shalom.
9:7Of the increase of his government and of shalom
there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to
uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the
LORD of Hosts will perform this.

5:8Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see G-d.
5:9Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called children of G-d.
5:10Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness'
sake,
For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
5:11"Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say
all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 5:12Rejoice, and
be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the
prophets who were before you.
5:13"You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its
flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and
trodden under the feet of men.
5:14You are the light of the world. A city
located on a hill can't be hidden.
5:15Neither do you light a lamp, and
put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house.
5:16Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see
your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
5:17"Don't think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I
didn't come to destroy, but to fulfill. 5:18For most assuredly,
I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen
stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished.
5:19Whoever, therefore, shall break one of these least
mitzvot, and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but
whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
5:20For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of
the scribes and Perushim, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Additional B'rit Chadashah readings:
5:21"You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, 'You shall
not murder;' and 'Whoever shall murder shall be in danger of the judgment.'
5:22But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother
without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother,
'You good-for-nothing!' shall be in danger of the council; and whoever shall say, 'You
fool!' shall be in danger of the fire of Gehinnom.
5:23"If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there
remember that your brother has anything against you, 5:24leave your gift
there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come
and offer your gift. 5:25Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him in the
way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the
officer, and you be cast into prison. 5:26Most
assuredly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there, until you have paid the last
peruta.
5:27"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery;'
5:28but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her
has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
5:29If
your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is
more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to
be cast into Gehinnom. 5:30If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and
throw it away from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish,
and not your whole body be thrown into Gehinnom.
15:1Then Perushim and scribes came to Yeshua from Yerushalayim, saying,
15:2"Why
do your talmidim disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don't wash
their hands when they eat bread."
15:3He answered them, "Why do you also disobey
the mitzvah of G-d because of your tradition?
15:4For G-d commanded, 'Honor your father and your
mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.'
15:5But you say, 'Whoever may tell his father or his mother, "Whatever
help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to G-d,"
15:6he shall not honor his father or mother.' You have made the
mitzvah of G-d void because of your tradition.
15:7You hypocrites! Well did Yesha`yahu prophesy of you, saying,
15:8'These people
draw near to me with their mouth,
And honor me with their lips;
But their heart is far from me.
15:9And in vain do they
worship me,
Teaching as doctrine rules made by men.'"
15:10He summoned the multitude, and said to them, "Hear, and understand.
15:11That
which enters into the mouth doesn't defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the
mouth, this defiles the man."
19:16Behold, one came to him and said, "Good teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I
may have eternal life?"
19:17He said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but
one, that is, G-d. But if you want to enter into life, keep the
mitzvot."
19:18He said to him, "Which ones?"
Yeshua said, "'You
shall not murder.' 'You shall not commit adultery.' 'You shall not steal.' 'You shall not
offer false testimony.' 19:19'Honor your father and mother.' And, 'You shall love your neighbor
as yourself.'"
19:20The young man said to him, "All these things I have observed from my youth. What do
I still lack?"
19:21Yeshua said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what
you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
19:22But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sad, for he was one who had
great possessions. 19:23Yeshua said to his talmidim, "Most assuredly I say to you, a rich man will enter into the Kingdom of
Heaven with difficulty. 19:24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's
eye, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of G-d."
19:25When the talmidim heard it, they were exceedingly astonished,
saying, "Who then can be saved?"
19:26Looking at them, Yeshua said, "With men this is impossible,
but with G-d all things are possible."
19:27Then Kefa answered, "Behold, we have left everything, and followed you. What then
will we have?"
19:28Yeshua said to them, "Most assuredly I tell
you that you who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on the
throne of his glory, you also will sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of
Yisra'el. 19:29Everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father,
or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, will receive one hundred
times, and will inherit eternal life. 19:30But many will be
last who are first; and first who are last.
7:5The Perushim and the scribes asked him, "Why don't your
talmidim walk according to the tradition of the elders,
but eat their bread with unwashed hands?"
7:6He answered them, "Well did Yesha`yahu
prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written,
'This people honors me with their lips,
But their heart is far from me.
7:7But in vain do
they worship me,
Teaching as doctrines the mitzvot of men.'
7:8"For you set aside the mitzvah of
G-d, and hold tightly to the tradition of men--the washing of pitchers and
cups, and you do many other such things."
7:9He said to them,
"Full well do you reject the
mitzvah of G-d, that you may keep your
tradition. 7:10For Moshe said, 'Honor your father and your mother;' and, 'He who
speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.'
7:11But
you say, 'If a man tells his father or his mother, "Whatever profit you might have received
from me is Corban, that is to say, given to G-d;"'
7:12then
you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or his mother,
7:13making
void the word of G-d by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do many
things like this."
7:14He called all the multitude to himself, and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand.
7:15There
is nothing from outside of the man, that going into him can defile him; but the things which
proceed out of the man are those that defile the man.
10:17As he was going out into the way, one ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him,
"Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"
10:18Yeshua said to him, "Why do you call me good?
No one is good except one-- G-d. 10:19You know the
mitzvot: 'Do not murder,' 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do
not steal,' 'Do not give false testimony,' 'Do not defraud,' 'Honor your father and
mother.'"
10:20He said to him, "Teacher, I have observed all these things from my youth."
10:21Yeshua looking at him loved him, and said to him, "One thing
you lack. Go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in
heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross."
10:22But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who
had great possessions. 10:23Yeshua looked around, and said to his talmidim,
"How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into the
Kingdom of G-d!"
10:24The talmidim were amazed at his words. But Yeshua
answered again, "Children, how hard is it for those
who trust in riches to enter into the Kingdom of G-d!
10:25It
is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich man to enter into the
Kingdom of G-d."
10:26They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, "Then who can be saved?"
10:27Yeshua, looking at them, said, "With men it is impossible,
but not with G-d, for all things are possible with G-d."
10:28Kefa began to tell him, "Behold, we have left all, and have followed you."
10:29Yeshua said, "Most assuredly I tell you,
there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife,
or children, or land, for my sake, and for the Good News's sake,
10:30but
he will receive one hundred times more now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers,
children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life.
10:31But many who are first will be last; and the last first."
18:18A certain ruler asked him, saying, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit
eternal life?"
18:19Yeshua asked him, "Why do you call me good?
No one is good, except one--God.
18:20You know the
mitzvot: 'Don't commit adultery,' 'Don't murder,' 'Don't
steal,' 'Don't give false testimony,' 'Honor your father and your mother.'"
18:21He said, "I have observed all these things from my youth up."
18:22When Yeshua heard these things, he said to him, "You still
lack one thing. Sell all that you have, and distribute it to the poor. You will have
treasure in heaven. Come, follow me."
18:23But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich.
18:24Yeshua, seeing that he became very sad, said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the Kingdom of
G-d! 18:25For it is easier for a camel to enter in through a needle's eye,
than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of G-d."
18:26Those who heard it said, "Then who can be saved?"
18:27But he said, "The things which are impossible with men are
possible with G-d."
18:28Kefa said, "Look, we have left everything, and followed you."
18:29He said to them, "Most assuredly I tell you,
there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, for the
Kingdom of G-d's sake,
18:30who will not receive many times
more in this time, and in the world to come, eternal life."
6:1Now in those days, when the number of the talmidim
was multiplying, a complaint arose from the Grecian Yehudim against the Hebrews because
their widows were neglected in the daily service. 6:2The twelve summoned the multitude of
the talmidim and said, "It is not appropriate for us to
forsake the word of G-d and serve tables.
6:3Therefore select
from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom,
whom we may appoint over this business. 6:4But we will continue steadfastly in
prayer and in the ministry of the word."
6:5These words pleased the whole multitude. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith
and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a
proselyte of Antioch; 6:6whom they set before the emissaries. When they had prayed, they laid their hands on
them. 6:7The word of G-d increased and the number of the
talmidim multiplied in Yerushalayim exceedingly. A great
company of the kohanim were obedient to the faith.
2:17Indeed you bear the name of a Yehudi, and rest on the law, and glory in G-d,
2:18and know his will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out
of the law, 2:19and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light to those who
are in darkness, 2:20a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of babies, having in the law the form of
knowledge and of the truth. 2:21You therefore who teach another, don't you teach yourself? You who preach that a
man shouldn't steal, do you steal?
2:22You who say a man shouldn't commit adultery, do you
commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
2:23You who glory in
the law, through your disobedience of the law do you dishonor G-d?
2:24For
"the name of G-d is blasphemed among the Goyim because of you," just as it is
written. 2:25For circumcision indeed profits, if you are a doer of the law, but if you are a
transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
2:26If
therefore the uncircumcised keep the ordinances of the law, won't his uncircumcision be
accounted as circumcision? 2:27Won't the uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the law, judge you, who
with the letter and circumcision are a transgressor of the law?
2:28For he is not a
Yehudi who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh;
2:29but he is a Yehudi who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in
the spirit not in the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from G-d.
7:7What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn't have
known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn't have known coveting, unless the law had
said, "You shall not covet." 7:8But sin, finding occasion through the mitzvah,
produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.
7:9I was
alive apart from the law once, but when the mitzvah came,
sin revived, and I died. 7:10The mitzvah, which was for life, this I found to
be for death; 7:11for sin, finding occasion through the mitzvah,
deceived me, and through it killed me. 7:12Therefore the law indeed is holy,
and the mitzvah holy, and righteous, and good.
13:8Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has
fulfilled the law. 13:9For the mitzvot, "You shall not commit
adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not give false
testimony," "You shall not covet," and whatever other mitzvot
there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as
yourself." 13:10Love doesn't harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.
6:1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
6:2"Honor your father
and mother," which is the first mitzvah with a promise:
6:3"that it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth."
3:1This is a faithful saying: if a man seeks the office of an overseer, he desires a
good work. 3:2The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife,
temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;
3:3not a drinker, not
violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;
3:4one
who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;
3:5(but
if a man doesn't know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the assembly of
G-d?) 3:6not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the
devil. 3:7Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling
into reproach and the snare of the devil.
3:8Shammashim, in the same
way, must be reverent, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for money;
3:9holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
3:10Let them also first
be tested; then let them serve as shammashim, if they are
blameless. 3:11Their wives in the same way must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful
in all things. 3:12Let shammashim be husbands of one wife, ruling
their children and their own houses well. 3:13For those who have served well as
shammashim gain to themselves a good standing, and great
boldness in the faith which is in Messiah Yeshua.
3:14These things I write to you, hoping to come to you shortly;
2 Timotheos 2:2
2:2The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to
faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.
1:5I left you in Crete for this reason, that you would set in order the things that
were lacking, and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you;
1:6if anyone is
blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, who are not accused of
loose or unruly behavior. 1:7For the overseer must be blameless, as G-d's steward; not
self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest
gain; 1:8but given to hospitality, as a lover of good, sober-minded, fair, holy,
self-controlled; 1:9holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be
able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him.
Messianic Jews (Hebrews) 12:18-29
12:18For you have not come to a mountain that might be touched, and that burned with
fire, and to blackness, darkness, tempest, 12:19the sound of a
shofar, and the voice of words; which those who heard
it begged that not one more word should be spoken to them,
12:20for they could not
stand that which was commanded, "If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be
stoned;" 12:21and so fearful was the appearance, that Moshe said, "I am terrified and trembling."
12:22But you have come to Mount Tziyon, and to the city of the living G-d,
the heavenly Yerushalayim, and to innumerable hosts of angels,
12:23to the general
assembly and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to G-d the
Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,
12:24to Yeshua, the
mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of
Hevel.
12:25See that you don't refuse him who speaks. For if they didn't escape when they
refused him who warned on the Earth, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him
who warns from heaven, 12:26whose voice shook the earth, then, but now he has promised, saying, "Yet once more
I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens."
12:27This phrase, "Yet
once more," signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have
been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.
12:28Therefore,
receiving a Kingdom that can't be shaken, let us have grace, through which we serve
G-d acceptably, with reverence and awe, 12:29for our G-d is a
consuming fire.
Ya'akov (James) 2:8-13
2:8However, if you fulfill the royal law, according to the Scripture, "You shall love
your neighbor as yourself," you do well. 2:9But if you show partiality, you
commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
2:10For whoever shall
keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he has become guilty of all.
2:11For
he who said, "Do not commit adultery," said also, "Do not commit murder." Now if you do not
commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.
2:12So
speak, and so do, as men who are to be judged by a law of freedom.
2:13For judgment is
without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
1 Kefa (Peter) 2:9-10
2:9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for G-d's
own possession, that you may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of
darkness into his marvelous light:
2:10who in time past were no people, but now are
G-d's people, who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
