Notes

It is an intellectual and spiritual impossibility for anyone who clearly understands the teachings of Freemasonry and the teachings of the Bible to whole-heartedly embrace them both at the same time. While claiming that it “nowhere denies any fundamental doctrine of any religion,” Freemasonry stands diametrically opposed to many Biblical truths that are the very foundation of Biblical faith. In the following quotations, all added emphasis is mine unless otherwise stated.

Freemasonry and Truth

In Freemasonry: Its Aims and Ideals, J. S. M. Ward writes:

It [Freemasonry] nowhere denies any fundamental doctrine of any religion, and in consequence experience has shown that a Christian, a Jew, a Hindoo [sic.], and a Mohammedan [Moslem] can all be Masons, and yet remain loyal to their faiths. If there was any real conflict between Masonry and any religion, assuredly it would have arisen with one of these diverse types. In reality, Freemasonry teaches those spiritual truths on which all religions are based and which are common to all, and leaves its sons to add such further embellishments as they themselves consider true and desirable. No religion is endangered by Freemasonry; but, on the other hand, there is no room for bigots in our Order. Each man is entitled to think his conception of the Truth is the best, but he is not entitled to interfere with the conception of the Truth held by another. (p. 186)

This statement alone is a denial of the very central doctrine of true Biblical faith, that Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Christ), Israel's Messiah, and He alone, is the only source of G-d’s Truth. There may be “no room for bigots” in Freemasonry, but the Son of G-d leaves the one who believes in Him no room to be either complacent or compromising when it comes to “the conception of the Truth.” Concerning “the Truth,” the Bible says:

Yeshua said to him [Thomas] “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.” (John 14:6)

For the [Torah] was given through Moshe. Grace and truth came through Yeshua the Messiah. No one has seen G-d at any time. The one and only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him. (John 1:17-18)

But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshippers. G-d is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:23-24)

Yeshua therefore said to those Yehudim who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my talmidim. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Therefore Yeshua said to them, “If G-d were your Father, you would love me, for I came forth and have come from G-d. For neither have I come of myself, but he sent me. Why don’t you understand my speech? Because you can’t hear my word. You are of your Father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you don’t believe me. Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? He who is of G-d hears the words of G-d. For this cause you don't hear, because you are not of G-d.” (John 8:42-47)

“When the Counselor has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me. You will also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.” (John 15:26-27)

Freemasonry and Salvation

Thirty-second Degree Mason J. D. Buck [the 32nd degree is the second highest degree in all Freemasonry], writes in his book, Symbolism or Mystic Masonry:

“Every soul must ‘work out its own salvation,’ and ‘take the Kingdom of Heaven by force.’ Salvation by faith and the vicarious atonement were not taught, as now interpreted, by Jesus, nor are these doctrines taught in the exorteric [sic.] Scriptures. They are later and ignorant perversions of the original doctrines. In the Early Church, as in the Secret Doctrine, there was not one Christ for the whole world, but a potential Christ in every man. Theologians first made a fetish of the Impersonal, Omnipresent Divinity; and then tore the Christos from the hearts of all humanity in order to deify Jesus; that they might have a G-d-man peculiarly their own!” (p. 57).

Ward agrees with Buck:

“Freemasonry, in practice, teaches that all good men, whatever their personal beliefs, have a right to hope for salvation” (pp. 186-187).

Does the Bible agree with Freemasonry that that “all good men have a right to hope for salvation,” or does it teach that there is one, and only one, Source of salvation for all men?

[B]e it known to you all, and to all the people of Yisra'el, that in the name of Yeshua the Messiah of Natzeret, whom you crucified, whom G-d raised from the dead, in Him does this man stand here before you whole. He is “the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which was made the head of the corner.” There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, in which we must be saved!” (Acts 4:10-12)

Yeshua said: “You worship that which you don't know. We worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Yehudim [Jews]. But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshippers. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:22-24)

But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart;” that is, the word of faith, which we preach: that if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Yeshua, and believe in your heart that G-d raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.” (Rom. 10:8-11)

Yeshua said: “I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I AM^[1], you will die in your sins.” (John 8:24)

For G-d didn't appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. (1 Thes. 5:9-10)

But we are bound to always give thanks to G-d for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth. (2 Thes. 2:13)

[H]aving been made perfect, He [Messiah, the Great High Priest] became to all of those who obey Him the author of eternal salvation, named by G-d a Kohen Gadol [High Priest] after the order of Malki-Tzedek. (Heb. 5:9-10)

Inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment, so Messiah also, having been once offered to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, without sin, to those who are eagerly waiting for Him for salvation. (Heb 9:27-28)

After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Halleluyah! [Praise Yahweh!] Salvation, glory, and power belong to our G-d: for true and righteous are His judgments. For He has judged the great prostitute, her who corrupted the eretz [earth] with her sexual immorality, and He has avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.” (Rev 19:1-2)

Freemasonry and Wisdom

In Symbolism or Mystic Masonry Buck also states:

“To know G-d is the Supreme Wisdom.” It will be urged by modern Theologians that this view dethrones Christ. To this objection the answer is that any other view orphans Humanity. It is far more important that men should strive to become Christs than that they should believe that Jesus was Christ. If the Christ-state can be attained by but one human being during the whole evolution of the race, then the evolution of man is a farce and human perfection an impossibility” (p. 62).

The “wisdom” of Freemasonry is the “evolution of man” from a pool of primordial slime to the perfection of deity—“becoming a Christ.” This false doctrine is know as the deification of humanity, and it is the core philosophy of Mormonism, Hinduism, Secular Humanism, and the current New Age movement. Concerning this form of wisdom, the Bible says:

You are My witnesses, says Yahweh, and My servant whom I have chosen; that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I AM:^[2] before Me there was no G-d formed, neither shall there be after Me. I, even I, am Yahweh; and besides Me there is no Savior. (Isa 43:10-11)

See now that I, even I, am He,^[2] There is no G-d with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; There is none who can deliver out of my hand. (Deut 32:39)

Has a nation changed [its] gods, which yet are no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. Be astonished, you heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be you very desolate, says Yahweh. For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the spring of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. (Jer. 2:11-13)

Yahweh says: “How can I pardon you? your children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the prostitutes’ houses.” (Jer. 5:7)

Yahweh says: “Shall a man make to himself gods, which yet are no gods? Therefore, behold, I will cause them to know, this once will I cause them to know My hand and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jer. 16:20-21)

Yet I am Yahweh your G-d from the land of Mitzrayim [Egypt]; And you will know no G-d but Me, And besides me there is no savior.” (Hosea 13:4)

Wherever did humanity get the idea that men could become gods? They learned it from the Father of Lies:

The serpent said to the woman, “You won't surely die, for G-d knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like G-d, knowing good and evil.” (Gen. 3:4-5)

Freemasonry and Satan-Worship

C. W. Leadbeater 33° [a 33rd Degree Mason] writes in The Hidden Life in Freemasonry:

“The number of swings given to each of the non-official Brn. [Brethren] indicates his particular rank in the Order, for the degrees of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite are taken into account in Co-Masonry. Each thus receives the influence he needs, that he may be strengthened for the work which his rank qualifies him to do. Each Bro. [Brother], as he is censed, bows out of respect, and as a token that he dedicates all the force that he has to T.G.A.O.T.U. [The Grand Architect of the Universe]. The S.D. [Senior Deacon] is the Lucifer, who bears the light to his fellow-men. The light having been given to him from the Sacred Fire by the I.P.M. [Immediate Past Master], he carries it to the R.W.M [Right Worshipful Master], who by means of a smaller taper lights from it the tall candle standing on his right, and then puts out his taper with an extinguisher. He must not blow it out, because that would suggest the pollution of the sacred fire by the breath, which is unclean. It is for the same reason that the Parsis, who are sometimes called fire-worshipers, because they regard that element as the greatest symbol and expression of the divine, will on no account pollute it with refuse. The R.W.M. says: ‘May the light of wisdom illumine our work’ (here he lights his candle): ‘His wisdom is infinite.’” (pp. 132-133)

Manley Palmer Hall 33° (Scottish Rite), states in his book The Lost Keys of Freemasonry:

“When the Mason learns that the key to the warrior on the block is the proper application of the dynamo of living power, he has learned the mystery of his Craft. The seething energies of Lucifer are in his hands and before he may step onward and upward, he must prove his ability to properly apply energy.” (p. 48)

From their own official writings comes irrefutable evidence that (at least) the upper echelon of Freemasonry is worshipping Lucifer (Satan). Probably the single-most damning statement is from Albert Pike as recorded by Lady Queenborough (Edith Starr Miller) in her Occult Theocrasy [sic].

“The theological dogma of Albert Pike is explained in the ‘Instructions’ issued by him, on July 14, 1889, to the 23 Supreme Councils of the world and have been recorded by A. C. DeLaRive in La Femme et l'Enfante dan la Franc-Macconerie Univeselle (page 588) from which book we translate and quote as follows: ‘That which we must say to the crowd is — We worship a G-d, but it is the G-d that one adores without superstition. To you, Sovereign Grand Inspectors General, we say this, that you may repeat it to the Brethren of the 32nd, 31st, and 30th degrees — The Masonic religion should be, by all of us initiates of the high degrees, maintained in the purity of the Lucifereian doctrine. If Lucifer were not G-d, would Adonay^[3] (the G-d of the Christians) whose deeds prove his cruelty, perfidy, and hatred of man, barbarism and repulsion for science, would Adonay and his priests calumniate him? Yes, Lucifer is G-d, and unfortunately Adonay is also G-d. For the eternal law is that there is no light without shade, no beauty without ugliness, no white without black, for the absolute can only exist as two gods: darkness being necessary to light to serve as its foil as the pedestal is necessary to the statue, and the brake to the locomotive. In analogical and universal dynamics one can only lean on that which will resist. Thus the universe is balanced by two forces which maintain its equilibrium: the force of attraction and that of repulsion. These two forces exit in physics, philosophy and religion. And the scientific reality of the divine dualism is demonstrated by the phenomena of polarity and by the universal law of sympathies and antipathies. That is why the intelligent disciples of Zoroaster, as well as, after them, the Gnostics, the Manicheans and the Templars have admitted, as the only logical metaphysical conception, the system of the two divine principles fighting eternally, and one cannot believe the one inferior in power to the other. Thus, the doctrine of Satanism is a heresy; and the true and pure philosophic religion is the belief in Lucifer, the equal of Adonay; but Lucifer, G-d of Light and G-d of Good, is struggling for humanity against Adonay, the G-d of Darkness and Evil.’ One must not lose sight of the fact that Pike occupied simultaneously the positions of Grand Master of the Central Directory of Washington, that of Grand Commander of the Supreme Council of Charleston and that of Sovereign Pontiff of Universal Freemasonry.” (pp. 220-221)

George H. Steinmetz, another high-ranking Mason, writes in his book Freemasonry: Its Hidden Meaning:

“Until one ‘seeks’ and finds that deeper meaning and applies it spiritually Masonry is not religion. It becomes religion only to him who finds religion in it, to others it remains but ritual, and a best a system of morals.” (p. 18)

Further on, Steinmetz explains the use of astrology along with the teaching of evolution, reincarnation [souls of the dead returning to earth in new forms or bodies, Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary, p. 713] and karma [fixing one's lot in future existence, destiny, Webster's, p. 459] in Masonry's doctrine.^[4]

“As we today understand the meaning of ‘Astrology,’ it is the science by which the effect of the celestial bodies upon human affairs is determined [Horoscope]. Obviously it is ‘Astrology’ and not ‘Astronomy’ which is recommended to the Mason as a subject of study. I say ‘obviously’ because the ancient secret doctrine, which is concealed in Masonic allegory and symbolism, teaches Evolution as surely as Darwin ever taught it; Reincarnation and the Law of Necessity or Karma, which are included in, and are a part of the teaching of scientific astrology. Neither need the Christian Mason shudder on being told Masonry embraces such teaching. If he feels any repugnance at the thought it is because those who today profess those teachings, such as the Buddist [sic.] and the Hindu, have distorted these Divine truths as greatly as Christianity has [distorted] the sublime teaching of the Master Jesus.^[5] There is no NEW religion. There is but ONE RELIGION. The ancient Hebrew believed in evolution, reincarnation, and karma, as well as astrology ... It was but to preserve these truths for ‘future generations’ that Masonry itself was perpetuated.” (pp. 123-124).

Further, Steinmetz relates man to the I Am^[6] by stating:

“Of all the material creation man alone can declare ‘I AM.’ But those words are far more than a declaration of a material fact. To so declare is recognition of consciousness — a statement of recognized individuality. An AFFIRMATION OF DIVINITY — for ONLY G-d, and man, made in His image, can declare ‘I AM.’^[7] Not in the mere statement, but rather in the complete realization of its implications, is the power we seek, for it is an affirmation of immortality. ... The entire object of Freemasonry is to inculcate such thinking. For when followed to its logical conclusion it is discovered that Freemasonry is not a lodge, not a ritual, but a plan for the loving of life.” (p. 157)

Freemasonry's Immorality

Albert Mackey, a 33rd-Degree Mason who compiled a monumental work on Masonry entitled Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, tells how Masonry has incorporated into its symbolism Phallic Worship or the worship of the male sex organ:

“Phallic Worship. The Phallus was a sculptured representation of the membrum virile, or male organ of generation; and the worship of it is said to have originated in Egypt ... The Phallus, therefore, as the symbol of the male generative principle, was very universally venerated among the ancients, and that too as a religious rite ... But the Phallus, or, as it was called among the Orientalists [sic.], the Lingam, was a representation of the male principle only. To perfect the circle of generation, it is necessary to advance one step farther. Accordingly we find in the Cteis of the Greeks, and the Yoni of the Indians, a symbol of the female generative principle of coextensive prevalence with the Phallus. The Cteis was a circular and concave pedestal, or receptacle, on which the Phallus or column rested and from the center of which it sprang. The union of these two, as the generative and the producing principles of nature, in one compound figure, was the most usual mode of representation. And here, I think, we undoubtedly find the remote origin of the point with in the circle, an ancient symbol which was first adopted by the old sun-worshipers, and then by the ancient astronomers, as a symbol of the sun surrounded by the earth or the universe — the sun as the generator and the earth as the producer — and afterward modified in its signification and incorporated into the symbolism of Freemasonry” (p. 560)

Master Masons’ secret oaths state, “Furthermore, that I will not have illicit carnal intercourse with a brother Master Mason's wife, his mother, sister or daughter, I knowing them to be such, nor suffer it to be done by others, if in my power to prevent” (Freemasonry, p. 8). How about those who are not Masons, or if they do not know them to be Masons? Fornication and adultery are not condemned, but only given certain restrictions.

Conclusion

Membership, partnership, or fellowship with any of the works of darkness is forbidden by G-d’s Word.

Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness? What agreement has Messiah with Beliya`al? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever? What agreement has a temple of G-d with idols? For you are a temple of the living G-d. Even as G-d said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their G-d, and they will be my people.” Therefore, “‘Come out from among them, And be separate,’ says the Lord, “Touch no unclean thing. I will receive you. I will be to you a Father. You will be to me sons and daughters,’ says the Lord Almighty.” (2 Cor. 6:14-18)

Light cannot fellowship with darkness. Christ cannot fellowship with the Devil. Believers in Messiah simply cannot be a part of the Devil’s Lodge.

You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons. (1 Cor. 10:21)

Eminent Witnesses Against Freemasonry

“Masonry originated with the Devil and will end with the Devil.” (Peter Cartwright)

“In my opinion, the imposition of such obligation as Freemasonry requires should be prohibited by law.” (Daniel Webster)

“I am prepared to complete the demonstration before G-d and man, that the Masonic oaths, obligations and penalties cannot by any possibility be reconciled with the laws of morality, of Christianity, or of the land.” (President John Quincy Adams)

“I do not see how any Christian, most of all a Christian minister, can go into these secret lodges with unbelievers. Do not do evil that good may come. You can never reform anything by unequally yoking yourself with ungodly men.” (Dwight L. Moody)

Notes:

1. In almost all English translations of the B'rit Chadasha (the Renewed Covenant, or so-called “New Testament”), this phrase is incorrectly translated as “unless you believe that I am he.” The word he does not appear in the Greek translation of the B'rit Chadasha from which most English Bibles are translated; the word he is an editorial edition that is included to try to “explain” the verse, but that addition leads to the omission of a vitally important truth. Many falsely say that Yeshua never claimed to be the Messiah, and that He never claimed to be G-d. In the Greek translation, what Yeshua says is, “unless you believe that ego eime, you will die in your sins.” The words ego eime literally translate as I AM, the Name by which Adonai revealed Himself to Moshe from the burning bush. Moshe said to G-d, “Behold, when I come to the children of Yisra'el, and tell them, ‘The G-d of your fathers has sent me to you;’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ What should I tell them?” G-d said to Moshe, “I AM WHO I AM.” and He said, “You shall tell the children of Yisra'el this: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” G-d said moreover to Moshe, “You shall tell the children of Yisra'el this, ‘Yahweh, the G-d of your fathers, the G-d of Avraham, the G-d of Yitzchak, and the G-d of Ya`akov, has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.” (Exod 3:13-15)

When Yeshua actually said was, unless you believe that I AM Yahweh, the G-d of your fathers, the G-d of Avraham, the G-d of Yitzchak, and the G-d of Ya`akov, you will die in your sins.”

3. “Adonay” (usually spelled Adonai) is commonly misunderstood and used, usually by Cultists and other pagans, as one of the Names of G-d. The word is actually not a name but a title, a transliteration of the Hebrew equivalent of the English word “Lord.” G-d's proper Name revealed to us in the Sacred Text is Yahweh, represented by the four letters “YHWH,” called the tetragrammaton, and translates into English, in its simplest form, as “I AM.” In obedience to the Commandment “You shall not take the name of YHWH your G-d in vain” (Exodus 20:7), when praying or reading the Scriptures aloud, the Jews adopted the practice of substituting the word “Lord,” or “Adonai,” for the Sacred Name. In this way they were able to avoid the risk of mispronouncing the Sacred Name. This practice continues in most English translations where the Sacred Name is represented by the word “LORD” in small capital letters. [Return]

5. “The Master Jesus” does not refer to Yeshua (Jesus) of Nazareth, the eternal only begotten Son of G-d. Rather “the Master Jesus” is a term which is used by Muslims, Hindus, numerous cults (the I AM, Ascended Masters, and New Age cults in particular), and occult groups to describe theoretical, but non-existent, merely mortal Jew who supposedly lived in the first century, and who they claim was probably of the Essene sect [the Essenes collected the Dead Sea Scrolls]. After mastering the occult secrets and witchcraft of the Kabala [a body of occult knowledge documented by ancient heretical and idolatrous Jews], he went to India for several years (sometime between the ages of 13 and 30) where he studied at the feet of the Buddhist and Hindu masters until he also mastered their practices. It was this occult knowledge which enabled him to heal the sick, levitate (giving the appearance of walking on water and ascending into the air), and materialize through solid walls.
